Valheim | Importing existing Saves into Your Valheim Server

Importing a pre-existing save in Valheim can be done by following these steps:

  1. Locate Save Data: The save data for your worlds can be found at the following location on your computer: C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds. Identify the files with the extension .fwl and .db which correspond to the world you wish to import.

  2. Stop the Server: Before proceeding with the import, ensure that your Valheim server is stopped to prevent any conflicts during the process.

  3. Upload Save Files: Using either the file manager or an FTP client, upload the .fwl and .db save files to the saves/worlds folder on your Valheim server. If the worlds folder is not already present, you may need to create it.

tip

if you are unsure how to setup an FTP client you can follow this guide

  1. Edit Command Line: Access the Commandline Manager in your server's control panel. Look for the option called World Save Name and modify it
tip

You must use the exact same name as the world you were previously playing. This is crucial as the naming is case-sensitive.

  • For example: if your previous world files were named dedicated.fwl and dedicated.db, you should set the world name in the Commandline Manager to be dedicated.
  1. Apply Changes: After updating the World Save Name, click on the Apply button to save the changes.

Now, your Valheim server should be set up to use the imported save data, and you can launch it to continue playing on the pre-existing world. Remember that it's essential to ensure the file names match precisely to avoid any issues when loading the world in the game.
